Lateral Rook Trap

My winning streak was crushed today with a clever lateral rook trap on the 4Th rank. It was almost worth it just to see such a brilliant maneuver like this played out. Greed took a brief hold during a middle game combination that I could have come out ahead on and I tried to bate him into a couple stalemate positions but he was to adept to bite.

Also, I added a link to a PGN Viewer in the side bar. Highlight the game, copy it, click the link and paste it in the PGN Viewer. It's all vanilla and worth it to watch yours truly in action. I tried finding a PGN viewer to paste in the sidebar or posts, but it is a serious p in the a and not worth the headache. I'm surprise no one has come up with something easy to use and distributable given that so many chess nerds are also math and computer nerds.

A couple of things, I have used chess publisher for inline, but there may be something wrong with it.

But you can find it here...

But more importantly, I may be dumb as a rock, but what tactic are you talking about? I was trying to be creative about lateral, and 4th rank, and even rook, but I am not sure I see the play.

First off let me say I read some of your blog for the first time this morning and really enjoyed it. Especially the title. Im a runner/chessplayer and every year my Dad and I attempt to conquer two or three runs together. Always a good time. I know your not "dumb as a rock" because rocks dont leave comments. Im tempted to treat you like one though, for the sake of my own ego. Which is sad. Watch the game at 42. ... Kg6g5 youll notice my rook (the one that looks like a castle ;) )has one option outside of the 4th rank. his pawns and king own every square but two on the 4th leaving me very few options. When he saw the opportunity to capitalize on this is a mystery but he certainly did. I fell right into it with 43.f3. Eventually my pawns were going to have to move and that was going to leave my rook hung out to dry. If I moved the pawns queenside it would only accelerate his ability to queen a pawn. This, as I see it, is a creative trap that I fell into quite blindly and cost me the game.

Thanks for the link it seems to have worked well for you so I will check it out.

Now I get it, sort of like the fly in the amber, and having his wings pulled off sort of trap.

I wasn't closely watching the line, so I wasn't noticing the constant and continual problems you have, up to the point that it was all over. Yeowtch.

Thank you for your nice comments. Come back anytime.
